‘Empire’ Christmas Gift Guide: The Rest Of The Cast

We’ve got the Lyons of our lives covered with the Empire Christmas gift guide, but what if you’ve got a friend (or foe) who matches the personalities of an Empire character who isn’t in the Lyon family? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Check out the gift guide below for the Boo Boo Kitties and the Beckys you know.

    Anika/Boo Boo Kitty

    Amazon

Some chill pills. Seriously. And maybe a copy of Machiavelli’s The Prince, so she has a better sense of political maneuvering, assuming that your real-life Anika also employs the same sloppy tactics.  Anika is played by Grace Byers.  She just released the book, I Am Enough, a great gift for your favorite Boo Boo Kitty fan.

    Porsha

    Amazon

Cat toys for her new office pet and ear plugs for when Cookie, or, his or her boss yells at them at work. Perhaps throw in some resume paper so they can get a new job.  Porsha loves bright lipstick just as much as she loves Cookie.  Buy your favorite Empire fan Taraji P. Henson’s Mac Viva Glam lipstick.

    Becky

    Amazon

More respect for being a dutiful assistant! Especially if you know a Becky who has a boss like Andre, who doesn’t exactly respect her.  Becky is played by Gabourey Sidibe and she recently released the book, This Is Just My Face: Try Not To Stare.  Buy it for your favorite Empire fan.

    Tiana

    Amazon

Pepper spray if it’s legal in your area, or maybe just some self-defense lessons so your Tiana friend never has to experience what actual Tiana experience in the lobby of Lyon Dynasty.  Buy your favorite Empire fan “Drip Drop” because the song never gets old!

    Thirsty Rawlings

    Amazon

What do you get the man who has all the gadgets in the world? Maybe just an Amazon gift card and see what crazy thing he digs up on that website.  Thirsty is played by Andre Royo aka Bubbles from The Wire.  If your favorite Empire fan isn’t familiar with The Wire buy them the complete series.

This one’s a bit late, but since Empire is a repeat this week, here’s a quick catchup for those who were busy during the spring holidays.

    • Lucious has some medical issues with his non-ALS condition and Anika tries to exploit it with some empty threats. Luckily, Lucifer Lyon has a gun by his side.
    • Andre continues to pursue ~Vegas~ and getting Empire a casino license in Sin City.
    • Jamal continues to work on his Cookie and Lucious album. Jamal releases a teaser for the album, and it causes waves for Cookie and Angelo’s relationship. She wants another teaser to show that Cookie and Lucious’ relationship eventually soured, but Jamal says no.
    • Anika wants Cookie to look after Bella if something happens to her.
    • Cookie/Lucious shippers in the show coin the term “Cucious,” which sounds SO dirty. Cookie agrees: “It sounds like a damn STD.”
    • Jamal tries to let D-Major down easy again.
    • Kennedy, fron Hakeem’s 21st birthday, faces off with Thirsty and her own attorney. Hakeem doesn’t speak up for her. “What is victim-blaming?” Hakeem asks and learns a lesson about his own behavior from Cookie and Jamal.
    • Hakeem then records a rap that supports women and pays tribute to his daughter. Aww.
    • Andre brings the Empire board to Lucious’ sick bed and pitches his idea about ~Vegas~ residencies. Lucious hates the idea and fires Andre, but no one else supports the idea, because they like his ideas. Also, Andre name drops The Weeknd and then The Weeknd’s “I Feel It Coming” plays in the next scene!
    • Lucious crashes Angelo’s election party. Angelo wins…the Democratic primary. Which means there’s more election to come.
    • Lucious plays a song at the party and Cookie flashes back to romantic memories with him. Then Guiliana approaches him and lets the audience know they were once romantically involved. Whoa!
  • ‘Empire’ Season 3 Recap: “Strange Bedfellows”

‘Empire’ Season 3 Recap: “Strange Bedfellows”

The episode begins with Hakeem waking up after an epic night of partying, boasting about how his 21st birthday is going to be an even more epic night of partying. (I can’t help but have a bad feeling about this.)  Hakeem skypes with Tiana, who is on tour and won’t be at the 21-hour club-hopping bash. He’s bummed that she won’t be there. (Again, I’ve got a bad feeling about this.) It’s going to be streamed live on Empire Xtreme, which Andre is pissed about.

Tiana winds up showing up, but Hakeem has words with the club manager about his appearance fee. At Leviticus, everything seems to be going great. Jamal and Tiana serenade Hakeem, but then a fight breaks out at the club. Andre and Hakeem argue about it and then Andre bans Hakeem from Empire Xtreme. Hakeem heads to Lucious’ house to get Bella and spend the final moments of his birthday with his daughter, which impresses Lucious. Lucious tells Hakeem the story of his birth.

D-Major Facebook-lives his declaration of love to Jamal, but catches Jamal with another guy. Ouch. D-Major gets banned from Empire, because Cookie doesn’t like his influence over Jamal.

Leah has it out for Anika aka the “wife woman,” since she has disappeared. Hakeem is surprised to learn this. Anika returns and has a confrontation with Cookie and Lucious. And Leah, who wants to kill Anika. Boo Boo Kitty decides to start an affair with Tariq to discredit him, which is such an Anika thing to do.

Nia Long and Andre bond and flirt, talking about starting a business in Vegas. Cookie runs into Nia Long at the salon, and she takes Cookie’s hair appointment — and calls Cookie “trash.” Guiliana aka Nia Long flirt more and she tells him she won’t sleep with him unless Nessa says it’s ok, and he says it’s fine.

Angelo finds Cookie’s gun and gets upset, especially since it was a “gift” from Lucious. She pledges to get rid of it and all other gifts from Lucious.

‘Empire’ Season 3, Episode 11 Recap: “Play On”

We pick up with Cookie’s remorse for trashing Lucious’ place, for kissing him, and for that time Lucious got her kicked out of her dad’s house — which included them having sex for the first time in a flashback. Cookie’s sister tells Cookie she better not go back to “Lucifer Lyon.” Cookie visits Angelo and he notices her bruises from her Lucious showdown. Angelo later confronts Lucious over Cookie’s parole.

Cookie goes to clear the air with Lucious, and walks in after Anika and Lucious have had sex. Oy. They argue about their feelings for each other and move on from each other. Later, Anika tries to comfort Becky about the A&R position, saying one day she will be ready for it, and lets her be in charge of a rehearsal.

At dinner, Cookie’s sister drops hints that Angelo and Cookie should have a proper wedding — and then there’s a flashback to Lucious and Cookie’s wedding (she’s pregnant with Andre, presumably).

Hakeem shows his support for Tiana at a dance rehearsal for her music video (directed by Hakeem), where he tries to get her to finally meet his daughter.  Tiana doesn’t want to, but the conversation gets interrupted when Leah Walker shows up, gets one of the dancers to distract her guard so she can sneak away, and urges Hakeem to marry Tiana. Anika makes Hakeem take Isbella for the day and thus Tiana finally comes face to face with the baby — and she enjoys it more than she thought she would.

Jamal works in the studio with Tory. Cookie advises them to “mess it up some more” and to not let Lucious know what they’re doing. But after some jamming, Jamal tells them not to wipe the hard drive clean. Uh oh. Of course, Cookie and Jamal find Lucious listening to Jamal’s track. There’s also a flashback to when Cookie told Lucious she was pregnant.

Tariq meets with Anika and Leah Walker. Will his investigation ever end?

Andre meets Danger (literally), who is an actual man. He goes deeper and meets other shady folks, including a character played by Nia Long.

‘Empire’ Season 3 Quick Recap: “Sound & Fury”

Finally, Empire has returned with a brand new episode! The episode opens at Lucious Lyon Inferno, which has fire batons and lots of tension in the Lyon family — especially when Leah Walker wanders onto the stage. Uh oh. And that’s just the beginning.

Here’s a quick rundown of the episode so you can get all caught up quickly.

    • Nessa gets chosen for another showcase, despite Hakeem and Cookie wanting Tiana for the job. At the showcase, Tiana and Nessa get into a cat fight, where Nessa literally throws Tiana off the stage.
    • Cookie and Angelo seem to be doing OK after the fallout of the revelation of the car accident from his past.
    • Andre, Cookie, Lucious, and Hakeem have a tense visit with Jamal in rehab. Jamal writes music in rehab with Tory (Rumer Willis). Jamal disappears from rehab, and goes to record with Tory in a studio.
    • Lucious endorses Angelo’s opponent, John Meeks. Ouch.
    • Xavier is the worst. He finally gets fired. Later, Xavier. But Anika gets to be head of A&R and Cookie is pissed.
    • Cookie takes a bat and smashes up the halls of Empire Entertainment, including gold records and Lucious’ piano. And then they make out on the piano, because this is Lucious and Cookie we’re talking about, but Cookie doesn’t let it go further than that.

The wait is finally over — Empire Season 3 is finally back from hiatus on March 22 for its spring premiere on Fox. It feels like it’s been forever since we last saw the Lyon family and their capital-D Drama at Empire Entertainment.

Last time we saw the Lyons in December, Andre had finally let go of Ghost Rhonda. A scandal from Angelo’s past surfaced, thanks to Lucious and his jealousy over Angelo and Cookie’s budding romance. Jamal was headed to rehab. Hakeem and Tiana brought “Takeem” back to life and resumed their romance.

So what are some of the things that lie ahead on Empire Season 3?

  • Kaitlin Doubleday Cast In ‘Nashville’ With Rachel Bilson, So Rhonda Lives! (Soft Of)

Kaitlin Doubleday Cast In ‘Nashville’ With Rachel Bilson, So Rhonda Lives! (Soft Of)

Rhonda was killed off on Empire earlier this season, but actress Kaitlin Doubleday is moving on to star in CMT’s Nashville. Doubleday will join Rachel Bilson, who was also cast as a new addition to the show, but their roles are currently a secret.

“We welcome Rachel and Kaitlin into our incredibly talented ensemble,” series co-showrunner Marshall Herskovitz told The Hollywood Reporter. “We fondly anticipate the second half of the season filled with surprising twists and turns that make Nashville so beloved by the fans.”

A post shared by Kaitlin Doubleday (@kaitlindday) on Mar 9, 2017 at 7:17pm PST

On Empire, Doubleday played Andre’s wife Rhonda Lyon, who was killed by falling off a building while in a struggle with Anika.

Rhonda never quite got to show off any vocal talent she may have — and it’s currently unknown if Doubleday’s character is a musician, like many of the characters on Nashville. The CMT series is also no stranger to killing off characters, so beware — recently, the series killed off Connie Britton’s character Rayna James.

Taraji P. Henson has definitely been living her best life during Empire‘s hiatus, especially at the 2017 Oscars. Taraji P. Henson looked like she was having the time of her life.

  • Decoding The Super Bowl ‘Empire’ Teaser Trailer

Decoding The Super Bowl ‘Empire’ Teaser Trailer

During the Super Bowl, there were tons of expensive and awesome commercials, but Fox also finally gave us all a glimpse of the trailer for the new episodes of Empire, premiering in March. And boy oh boy, it looks like a lot of drama is on the horizon for the Lyons.

    Empire Season 3 Trailer
    Empire Season 3 Trailer

Check out the trailer below and then let’s get decoding.

    • The trailer features the ’90s classic song “What is Love?” by Haddaway. The rest of the refain includes “baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me no more.” Could this indicate that the Lyons will face more betrayal? And the fact that this is a ’90s song tells me that the tension is most likely between Cookie and Lucious, because they have always had a bond influenced by old school music.
    • COOKIE HAS A BAT. Oh man. And it looks like she’s using it on Lucious. What did he do this time? And how did she get that bat? She is wielding all over the place, much like Kalinda on The Good Wife used to do.
    • Lucious is on the ground, surrounded by broken glass. Is this indicative that this time around, he’s defeated and Cookie will be calling the shots/be victorious? Lucious does eventually get up, but he is stumbling.
    •  THE FLASHBACKS. It looks like those will be back, too.
    • “None of this would exist without me,” Cookie screams. “You built this company on my back.” Cookie means business this time around.
    • And then Cookie and Lucious kiss. Say what?!
